The tech boys assure me that this is working.  I guess I'll never know, but I'll act like it is.

Sending test signal . . . ***************************************************************************************************
Getting return feedback.

Hello, my name's Charlene.  I'm with the Sigma One-Seven Resistance Cell, broadcasting from the Appalachian Mountains in the USSA.  I'm talking to you from the year 2030.  Maybe you'll believe me and maybe you won't.  I'll try anyway.

The tech boys can't be sure what year this transmission will reach but we're hoping that it's soon enough to do some good.  They also said something about 'violating causality' that I don't understand shit about, but they think I probably won't be able to alter history.  I figure it sure can't do any harm.

We have to power this down.  The generator puts out a lot of heat and the helicopter patrols have infra-red scanners.  I'll talk more later.

Am I talking to myself?

Hey, I'm back again.

The chopper patrols are fairly regular but we managed to snag some anti-thermal camouflage from a National Guard armory.  Security has gone to shit in the smaller communities and the blueshirts have taken over a lot of the military bases.  They're great at terrorizing people and running the re-eds but suck at security.  We stole a lot of stuff when they were distracted by another Dolist riot.  The Dolists aren't good for much but occasionally they have their uses.

I just realized that if this is working I'll appear on her as someone around 20 or 21 years old.  Wow.  I wish.  Of course it's true, in a way.  I am in my early twenties when you're reading this.  But in your future I'm 43.  I'd like to think I've kept my figure up, but you know what they say: it's not the years, it's the mileage.

***************************

Sorry, we had to power down for a second.  We have to tap into the internet to transmit this and it can get risky.  There are a lot of security search programs out there looking for anti-governmental activities.  Anyone who finds us would get a year's worth of carbon credits and be re-prioritized for a higher Dole tier.  That kind of reward gets people motivated.

Anyway, I can't help but think about what I was like . . . am like . . . now, or rather then.  (Tenses suck when you're talking back in time.)  I was in college and my friends and I were so excited over the idea of President Obama.  We all knew how horrible President Bush and the Republicans were and wanted change.

I remember my dad (God rest his soul,) saying something like: "I'm not sure about this Obama guy.  He kind of reminds me of cult leader or dictator."

We all laughed at it or made fun of him when he wasn't around.  We weren't going to listen to him.  He had voted for Bush, for God's sake!  He was old and out of touch!  When Obama was elected, my friends and I went out and had an all-night celebration.  We were lucky we didn't roll our van underneath a tractor-trailer, but we had a blast!

God, what fools we were.

But to be fair, few of us had any idea what was coming.  And most of my friends learned the hard way.  As far as I know, I'm the only one still alive.  I miss 'em all.

Gotta power down again.  Another security patrol nearby.  Talk again later.
